Alan Leshner is a renowned speaker who explores the intersection of science and culture. He has published extensively for both the scientific community and general public on the biology of behavior, science and technology policy, science education, and public engagement with science.

In his long career, Leshner has served as Chief Executive Officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Executive Publisher of the journal Science, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and Deputy Director of the National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH). Leshner was appointed to the National Science Board by President Bush in 2004 and reappointed by President Obama in 2011.
