Sleep Medicine
This elective focuses on sleep disorders related to aging including:
- insomnia
- sleep apnea
- restless legs syndrome
- abnormal behaviors during sleep (including REM behavior disorder)
- sleep/wake problems due to
- medications
- dementia
- heart failure
- chronic pain
- kidney disease and other medical conditions.
Clinical training is based in the University of New Mexico Hospital Sleep Disorders Center which is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Clinical care conferences, didactic lectures, and hands-on sleep testing experience are all available.
