Psychosomatic Didactic

1 hr. each week for 40 weeks

This course provides in-depth exploration in topics of psychosomatic medicine and consultation/liaison psychiatry, as outlined in the APA Textbook of Psychosomatic Medicine. Topics include approaches to consultation, forensic issues, ethics, psychological issues and coping, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis and catatonia, delirium, dementia, substance abuse disorders, somatoform disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders, toxicology, organ- and disease-specific psychiatric issues, principles of psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, electroconvulsive therapies, and palliative care. This course prepares fellows to sit for the subspecialty written board examination.
