Co-Occurring Disorders Clinic

Co-Occurring Disorders Clinic
4 hours per week for 6 months
Location:  Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center
Faculty:  Cynthia Geppert, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., M.S.

Educational Activities:  Fellows receive supervision daily during clinic hours, in addition to informal didactic sessions around pain medicine and addition topics. Fellows share the clinic with attending psychiatrists and internal medicine along with psychiatry and medicine trainees.

Clinical Responsibilities:  Fellows manage a small panel of their own patients from initial evaluation until the end of the rotation.

Rotation Highlights:  The Co-Occurring Clinic is a rare clinical experience where patients with chronic and difficult to manage pain and substance abuse (including opioid dependence) are managed in the same setting. It provides a unique opportunity to blend both the medical and psychiatric help this challenging patient population seeks and will assist fellows to gain comfort working with these patients.
