Primary Care Mental Health Integration Clinic

Primary Care Mental Health Integration Clinic
4 hours per week for 6 months
Location:  Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center
Faculty:  Karen Cardon, M.D.

Educational Activities:  Fellows have the opportunity to receive direct supervision by a psychiatrist double-boarded in family medicine (with ten years of family medicine experience) and be fully integrated into a booming primary care clinic.

Clinical Activities:  In addition to triaging psychiatric referrals from primary care and reviewing the possible medical/psychosomatic crossover, fellows attend clinic team meeting, allowing them to gain full exposure to the junction of primary care and psychiatry.

Highlights:  The VA is a leader in the burgeoning field of psychiatry/primary care integration and this rotation is a great opportunity for fellows considering an outpatient practice in a system with integration and, perhaps, the ability to build a program in a system that needs more integration.
