Sara Lane, M.D., earns Research Award

Graduating resident Sara Lane, M.D. received the UNM Department of Psychiatry’s Resident Research Award at the Department’s recent graduation ceremony. The annual award is designed to encourage research throughout resident training. Among many criteria, the selection committee considers:

• Originality of the project and conceptual development
• Quality of methodology and design
• Integration of hypotheses, design and interpretation
• Publications and/or presentations

Dr. Lane’s research has centered on better understanding medical resident attitudes and perceptions regarding clinical evaluation of decision-making capacity in inpatient settings. Since beginning her project in her 3^rd year of residency, Dr. Lane has secured funding, gained IRB approval, and is in process of recruiting and interviewing subjects.

Dr. Lane’s interest in the evaluation of decision-making capacity will serve her well as she continues her studies this fall with a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical School.
