Congratulations to Donna M. Sigl, M.D., M.S., who was recently elected Chief of Staff at UNM. Writing on behalf of the Office of Clinical Affairs and UNM Hospital, Dr. David Pitcher, M.D., F.A.C.S, made the announcement on Thursday, November, 1, 2012. Dr. Pitcher is Chief Medical Officer, UNM Hospitals; Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs; and Professor of Surgery.
Dr. Sigl is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Administration and Finance in the Department of Psychiatry. She currently serves as the Chair of the Physicians’ Advisory Group (PAG) and as a member of the UNM Medical Group Board of Directors and Finance Committee. She is also an original member of the LEAN “Champions” Team and is the Psychiatry Department’s Vice Chair for the design, start-up and operations of the Geriatric Psychiatry unit at Sandoval Regional Medical Center. As PAG Chair, she promotes enhanced physician decision-making, ease of practice, and participates in strategic planning. Dr. Sigl is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and Medical Director for UNM’s Children’s Psychiatric Center – Outpatient Services. In this position, she has obtained nursing support and new technology in teaching clinics to improve quality of patient care, the trainee learning experience, and clinic operational efficiency.
In 2012, Dr. Sigl was chosen to participate in the first class of the UNM Medical Leadership Academy and in 2011 as a participant in the Harvard Leadership Development for Physicians in Academic Health Centers . Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Sigl worked as a CPA for an international accounting firm and continues to use these skills as a physician leader in her academic medical career. Dr. Sigl is widely recognized for applying models from business and technology to support quality and efficiency and for her ability to translate methodologies across health care divisions and systems.Congratulations, Dr. Sigl!
