Congratulations to Patrick J. Gallegos, a Research Coordinator in the Department’s Center for Psychiatric Research on being awarded one of six 2013 NBCC Foundation Military Scholarships. The scholarship is awarded to service members and veterans pursuing a counseling education and who commit to service military personnel, veterans and families upon graduation.
Gallegos is the second UNM student to win the award in as many years. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the UNM Department of Psychology and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the College of Education. Gallegos served in the Army for nine years and has experienced firsthand the great need for increased and enhanced mental health care as a mental health specialist.
The programmatic priority of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) is to increase counseling and mental health care in under-served and never-served areas both domestically and abroad. For more about the NBCC, click here.
