Please join us in welcoming Lorena Rodríguez-Bores Ramírez, MD, who arrives the last week of July to spend six months in our Department as a Visiting Scholar.
Dr. Bores is the current recipient of the JJ Award from the International Society for Bipolar Disorders—Mexico (ISBD Mexico). The award was named after a young man, from Mexico City, whose bipolar disorder went undiagnosed and untreated, resulting in his suicide. Funded by the young man’s family every other year, the six-month recognition was created to provide promising new clinician researchers, whose home country is Mexico, more extensive opportunities in clinical research at an educational institution in the United States.
While in Albuquerque, Dr. Bores will observe clinical research and participate in educational activities in the Department under the mentorship of our chairman Mauricio Tohen, MD, DrPH, MBA. Several other faculty also will assist in providing clinical supervision in a variety of areas, they include: Drs. Christopher Abbott, Caroline Bonham, Mario Cruz , Jan Fawcett and Mohamad Khafaja. Additionally, Dr. Jeff Katzman will supervise Dr. Bores in educational activities with psychiatry residents and medical students.
Dr. Bores received her MD at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México at Mexico City in 2006 and completed her residency in Psychiatry in 2012 at the same institution’s National Institute of Psychiatry Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz. Dr. Bores is currently practicing Psychiatry at the Mood Disorders Clinic, Clinical Services Division, of the National Institute of Psychiatry Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz .
