During the last few years, Shannon Stromberg, MD, has presented several talks on psychiatric and substance-abusing patients to various police departments throughout New Mexico. This year his
presentation was made more official as part of House Bill 93 signed into law as 29-7-7.5 NMSA 1978 which now requires this education for all police officers.
Dr. Stromberg’s talk, Interaction with Persons with Mental Impairment Training, was held at the Santa Ana Pueblo Conference Center as part of the NM Department of Public Safety’s Law Enforcement Academy Biennium Training in late April. His audience included police officers from: APD, CIT, Santa Fe, Santa Ana Pueblo, Sandia Pueblo, and other pueblos.
In addition to serving the Department as Associate Professor, Dr. Stromberg is Medical Director of the University of New Mexico Psychiatric Center Inpatient Units.
