The Department of Psychiatry will hold a special free screening of The Anonymous People, a feature length documentary film that explores how deeply entrenched social stigma and discrimination have kept recovery voices silent and faces hidden for decades. The vacuum created by this silence has been filled by sensational media depictions of addiction that continue to perpetuate a fascination with the dysfunctional side of what is a preventable and treatable health condition. Directed by Greg Williams, The Anonymous People features prominent people who are living publicly in long-term recovery. Their brave testimonies dispel long-standing clichés about addiction and recovery. Brandi Fink, PhD, Assistant Professor, UNM Department of Psychiatry will lead a discussion after the movie. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, HSC Domenici Auditorium, Rm. 1220. http://psychiatry.unm.edu/ideas/our-programs/lets-keep-talking.html
