Rosenbaum Research Awards Announced

February 23, 2015

Congratulations to Lucas M. Dunklee, MD and Brian Sparks, MD – both PGY-3s in our department – for being named this year’s Rosenbaum Awardees.

Dunklee
Faculty Mentor:  Jan Fawcett, MD
“Cytochrome P450 heterozygosity in a treatment resistant depression population: A comparative cross-sectional study”

Sparks
Faculty Mentor:  Jeff Katzman, MD
“ISTDP: Can Self-Report Neuroticism Scores Serve as a Proxy for Trial Therapy Resistance Scores?”

This year six proposals were submitted and permission was granted to fund two rather than the usual one. Dr. Milton Rosenbaum, a member of the Department of Psychiatry until his death in 2003, generously provided substantial funding in perpetuity through the UNM Foundation to support pilot projects in the area of clinical/psychosocial research in psychiatry.

Priority is placed on studies that will provide data to initiate or further a research career and will lead to applications for external funding for additional investigation. Topics can include the entire spectrum of psychiatric research except they should not be directed at domains traditionally supported by the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. clinical trials) where funding may be available through industry-sponsored grants. All faculty, residents, and psychology interns in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences are encouraged to apply for seed grants ($4,000 or less) to support one-year projects. The research committee selects proposals based on their potential significance, scientific merit, feasibility, and potential to impact on principal investigator’s research career.

We wish to thank Dr. Milton Rosenbaum and his family for their kindness and vision in making this research funding possible for our faculty and residents.
